Happy Halloween, Chota fans! We’re focusing on trade shows this month, and for this week’s blog post, we’re going to give you the full rundown on the Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Expo. This event may be our last trade show of the year, but it comes at the perfect time for holiday shopping to round out our cross-country travels. We want to see as many of our customers as possible, both old and new, so we’re breaking down our top five reasons to attend so you can start making travel plans early!
1) Location, location, location!
The Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Expo takes place in Asheville, which is a great location for folks in east Tennessee or along the Tennessee/North Carolina border. Even if you live farther away, Asheville is a great city to visit over a weekend. Enjoy the pristine mountain views and hiking or fly fishing opportunities, the city’s numerous shopping opportunities, or one of the many holiday festivals or special events happening daily in the city. So if your traveling companions would rather check out the city, there’s no shortage of things for them to do while you’re at the expo.
2) This two-day show offers something for the entire family.
Children 16 and under get free admission, and we’ve seen plenty of young, aspiring fly anglers enjoy watching the casting pond and fly tying demonstrations. And while the expo is the southeast’s largest fly fishing show, it’s still not so large as to feel overwhelming to someone who has never attended a trade show. The 70+ vendor booths offer plenty of options for purchasing gear, as well as top-notch fly anglers for presentations, seminars, and casting pond demonstrations.
3) The show appeals to fly fishers of all experience levels.
The WNC Fly Fishing Expo maintains the traditions of Southern hospitality by welcoming novice fly fishers and experts alike. The presentation schedule offers a well-rounded lineup of seminars so that novice anglers can learn about multiple different types of fly fishing techniques, while experts can increase their knowledge from renowned experts on saltwater fly fishing, Tenkara, streamers, and muskies.
4) You can expect at least one comical photo opportunity.
A sense of humor is practically required when traveling among so many trade shows, and the sense of holiday cheer only makes it better. Sometimes the vendors come up with creative, inventive ways to draw attention to their booths. Two years ago a bathroom renovation company let people ride around the convention floor in, no joke, a motorized bathtub:
And last year, we experienced a mysterious Bigfoot sighting beside a motorboat vendor:
Who knows what holiday hijinks the vendors will use this year? You’ll just have to attend the expo to find out!
5) You can take care of holiday shopping and enjoy our show specials on Chota boots and waders!
The holiday season is one of the best times of the year to purchase Chota boots and waders as gifts for friends and family or to supplement your own gear setup. This year we’re bringing a healthy stash of our best-selling boots, including our STL “Plus” and Caney Fork Wading Boots, as well as our Original and Camo Hippies and South Fork Waders. We always offer major discounts and show specials on many of our products, and this year we’re especially excited to offer our new upcoming boots, the Hybrid High-Top Felt-Soled and Rubber-Soled Wading Boots.
We hope to see you at the WNC Fly Fishing Expo this year! If you live in Tennessee or North Carolina, consider making a weekend trip or bringing the entire family. Until then, start making those Christmas lists!
